Tom Robson, who passed away yesterday after a long illness, tried to stay out of the spotlight.
He always gave the credit to his hitters. But there is no doubt in my mind we wouldn’t have made it to the 2000 World Series without Robbie’s expertise.
Tom was our batting coach and he treated the guys the same, whether you were a star or someone who got in once a week. He always pushed the right button.
Robbie and I ate together, traveled together and had a lot of laughs together. We will miss you, Tom.

I wish Jay Bruce nothing but the best in his retirement. He was a class act on and off the field.

Whether he hit a game-winning home run or struck out with the bases loaded, Jay would always greet me in the clubhouse with the same line, “Let me know what you need from me, I will be at my locker.”
A few months ago after a member of our Mets family died, I called…

We shutout the Dodgers, 5–0 behind Armando Reyoso. Sure, I was glad we won, but on this night the score was really secondary.
History took place at Shea Stadium on April 15, 1997. MLB announced that in honor of Jackie Robinson, from that day forward, no player, coach or manager could ever be assigned the number 42 again. Players like our Butch Huskey, who was currently wearing 42, could continue to wear this special number.

Why am I a gigantic fan of the second-ranked Vanderbilt University baseball team?
Well, here are two pretty good reasons for all Mets fans to join me. The Commodores batting coach and recruiting coordinator is Mike Baxter. If you remember, Mike saved Johan Santana’s no-hitter with a spectacular catch in leftfield.
