FLUSHING, N.Y., August 2, 2021 — The New York Mets today announced the club has claimed RHP Jake Reed off waivers from Tampa Bay. He will report to Miami to be part of New York’s taxi squad.

Reed, 28, has appeared in six games, one start with the Los Angeles Dodgers this year. He has allowed five hits, two earned runs, walked two and struck out five over 5.1 innings. He began the year in the Angels organization, before signing with the Dodgers on June 4. Reed was designated for assignment and claimed by Tampa Bay on July 25. …

Newly acquired Trevor Williams made the start for Syracuse, getting the win after tossing six innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out six.

There was no better man than the late Al Jackson, who on Saturday will receive the Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award.

An original Met, he pitched the first one hitter in team history and was with our organization for over 50 years. He lost 20 games twice and but he never let those seasons define his career.

“Casey (Stengel) had to have a lot of faith in me to keep running me out there all those times,” Al once told me. “If he wasn’t any good I wouldn’t have pitched that much.” Al was a tutor so so many young Mets pitchers, especially Ron Darling who will be inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame on Saturday.

FLUSHING, N.Y., July 30, 2021 — The New York Mets today announced the club has acquired two-time All-Star infielder Javier Báez, RHP Trevor Williams and cash considerations from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for minor league outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong.

Báez, 28, has spent his entire eight-year major league career with the Cubs. This season with Chicago-NL, he is tied for sixth in the National League with 65 RBI and tied for seventh with 22 home runs. He has a 2.8 WAR according to Baseball-Reference.
