For me, one of the unsung heroes of the 1986 World Championship team was Kevin Mitchell.
As a rookie he played the infield and outfield and got one key hit after another. None was bigger than the pinch-hit single he got in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series in the 10th inning against the Red Sox with two outs to keep the rally going.
Before you ask, Kevin told me a long time ago he wasn’t back in the clubhouse getting dressed to go home when we were down by two runs.
All the vets like Straw, Ray Knight, Gary Carter and Keith loved him. They nicknamed him “World B. Mitch.” Happy birthday World.
