He was an MVP and World Series champion when he joined us in June of 1983.

I was a novice public relations person form Fairleigh Dickinson University when I first met Keith. He quickly became my go-to-guy and was always available to the media by his locker in the good times and most importantly when times were bad.

The press loved him because he could extol about balls and strikes as well as civil war generals. Books accompanied him on road trips. He helped indoctrinate me into the fabric of iconic 1986 Mets.

When I need him for charity events he was is always there. I will be leading the applause on July 9 when we retire Keith Hernandez’s Number 17.
