FLUSHING, N.Y., March 12, 2022 — The New York Mets tonight acquired All-Star RHP Chris Bassitt from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for minor leaguers RHP J.T. Ginn and RHP Adam Oller.

Bassitt was named to the American League All-Star team and finished 10th in the Cy Young voting last year. The 6–5, 217-pounder went 12–4 with a 3.15 ERA (55 earned runs/157.1 innings) and 159 strikeouts in 27 starts. Bassitt led the AL with a .750 winning percentage. He was leading the AL in wins (12) and innings (151.0) before he missed a month of the season when he was hit in the face by a line drive on August 17. Bassitt returned to the mound in late September to make two starts.

Bassitt is 27–11 with a 3.26 ERA in 66 games, 63 starts over the last three years. He ranked second in the AL in winning percentage (.711), third in ERA, fifth in opponents OPS (.661) and eighth in wins during that span (min. 300 innings).

He is one of nine pitchers since 2020 with 200 or more innings and an ERA under 3.00.

Bassitt established a career-lows in opponents batting average (.218) and opponents on-base percentage (.278) in 2021. Per ESPN Stats, he had the fifth-lowest batting average allowed (.185) on 4-seamers in 2021 among starting pitchers. Bassitt also worked 7.0 innings or more 11 times last year, tied for the fifth-most in the majors.

The Toledo, OH native went 5–2 with a 2.29 ERA (16 earned runs/63.0 innings) in 11 starts during the shortened 2020 campaign, finishing eighth in the AL Cy Young voting.

For his career, Bassitt is 31–25 with a 3.47 ERA (214 earned runs/555.2 innings) and 504 strikeouts in 106 games, 93 starts over parts of seven major league seasons with the Athletics and White Sox.

Ginn, 22, was originally drafted by the Mets in the second round of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft out of Mississippi State University. He appeared in 18 games between Single-A St. Lucie and High-A Brooklyn last year, combining to go 5–5 with a 3.33 ERA (31 earned runs/92.0 innings) with 22 walks and 81 strikeouts. Ginn was ranked as the 6th-best prospect in the organization according to Baseball America.

Oller, 27, was selected by the Mets in the Triple-A phase of the 2019 Rule 5 Draft from the Giants. He made 23 starts between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Syracuse in 2021, posting a 9–4 record with a 3.45 ERA (46 earned runs/120.0 innings) with 47 walks and 138 punchouts. He was selected to the 40-Man roster following the season.
