METS ANNOUNCE SEVERAL MINOR LEAGUE SIGNINGS
FLUSHING, N.Y., December 21, 2020 — The New York Mets announced today that the team has signed LHP Jerry Blevins, RHP Jerad Eickhoff, LHP Tom Windle and INF Wilfredo Tovar to minor league contracts with an invitation to Major League Spring Training.
Blevins, 37, is a 13-year major league veteran and is 30–13 with seven saves and a 3.54 ERA in 609 games. His last major league action came with Atlanta in 2019, where he was 1–0 with one save and a 3.90 ERA (14 earned runs/32.1 innings) with 16 walks and 37 strikeouts in 45 games.
The Johnson City, TN native spent four seasons with the Mets from 2015 to 2018. He owns a 14–4 record with a 3.38 ERA (52 earned runs/138.2 innings) with 61 walks and 166 punchouts in 219 career appearances with New York. He was originally acquired by New York from Washington on March 30, 2015 in exchange for outfielder Matt den Dekker.
Eickhoff, 30, spent time at the Alternate Sites for San Diego and Texas last season. He appeared in 12 games (10 starts) for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2019, going 3–4 with a 5.71 ERA (37 earned runs/58.1 innings) with 18 walks and 51 strikeouts. The righty owns a 21–30 record with a 4.15 ERA (203 earned runs/440.0 innings) with 126 walks and 396 strikeouts across 80 career major league games, including 76 starts. He was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 15th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Olney Central College in Illinois.
Windle, 28, owns a 41–24 record with a 4.13 ERA (232 earned runs/505.2 innings) with 222 walks and 434 strikeouts in 246 games (51 starts) in the minor leagues. The left-handed pitcher spent the 2020 season in the Boston Red Sox organization but did not play for the major league club. He was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Minnesota.
Tovar, 29, has appeared in 40 major league games with two teams, the Mets (2013–2014) and the Los Angeles Angels (2019). He spent the 2020 season as a member of the Minnesota Twins organization but did not play in the majors. He owns a career .268/.324/.352 slash line with 196 doubles, 30 home runs, 430 RBI and 179 steals across 12 minor league seasons. He originally signed with the Mets as a non-drafted free agent on October 12, 2007.
In addition, the Mets announced the signings of LHP Camrin Opp and catcher Jose Colina to minor league contracts without invitations to Major League Spring Training.
