Mets Women’s History Month Employee Profile: Week 1
It’s not just the players and coaches that have dreamed of making it to the big leagues. Many of our front office staff shared the same dream and contributes to the team’s overall success.
In honor of Women’s History Month, each week, we will take a closer look at the career paths of Mets employees as they achieved their goal of working in professional sports.
Samantha Gilmore — Mental Performance Coach
This is a photo of me in Little League in the year 1999. My parents were the team’s coaches. I went on to play softball all the way through college with my parents supporting me in the stands every step of the way. I have dreamed about working in professional baseball since I was in high school. Fast forward 10 years, now I am a Mental Performance Coach with the New York Mets living out my dream. Every day I get to support and be a part of other players’ stories as they achieve their own dreams. — Samantha Gilmore
Gabby Jasper — Coordinator of Broadcasting & Events
This photo was taken when I was 7 years old during one of my first Little League seasons. From a young age, I always enjoyed being part of the action and excitement, participating in as many activities as I could. Thanks to my parents’ love and support, I always had the opportunity to be involved in extracurricular activities. Sometimes this meant rushing from dance class to tee-ball with my leotard and tights under my uniform, squeezing my hat and helmet over the ballet bun on my head. While my playing career in baseball didn’t last long, my love for the game and longing to be part of the action remained — ultimately bringing me to the New York Mets as Coordinator of Broadcasting & Events. — Gabby Jasper
Taylor Kelly — Manager, Ticket Sales Logistics & Hospitality
This photo was taken in 2001 during my first (and only) season playing softball. While I didn’t last very long in softball, sports were an integral part of my childhood. Whether it was rushing to soccer practice or sitting down to watch a game with my family it seemed that my life revolved around sports. Sports always taught me to push myself to be the best I can be, which has helped turn me into who I am today. One of my first baseball memories is the Red Sox playoff run in 2004, where my dad let me stay up late every night to watch the Red Sox come back from a 3 game deficit to defeat the Yankees and ultimately go on to win the World Series. Baseball provided a way for us to take time out of our busy schedules and spend a few hours taking in a game. Never did we imagine that someday I would be working for a Major League baseball team! Now that I am the Manager of Ticket Logistics and Hospitality, I get to take part in creating memorable experiences for families that will hopefully shape the futures of young girls just like my former self! — Taylor Kelly
Aubrey Wechsler — Director of Employee Engagement
This is a photo from my first year playing little league softball in 1991. My parents took me to buy matching softball pants because I was upset that they weren’t included during the tee-ball years — I loved baseball so much already, I needed to look the part! So many of my greatest childhood memories were at Shea Stadium and working for the Mets only ever existed as a far off dream. Being the Director of Employee Engagement for the Mets and getting to be a part of all Mets staff living this same dream has been the greatest time of my career! — Aubrey Wechsler
Erica Wells — Assistant, External Affairs & Community Engagement
Softball and baseball have always been a huge part of my life. From starting with t-ball at a young age to playing competitive softball through high school, the sport has been an integral part of my upbringing. My dad and I are close for many reasons — one of them being our mutual love for baseball. Some of my greatest childhood (and adulthood!) memories have been going to baseball games with my dad and attempting to visit as many stadiums as possible across the country! Being part of the Community Engagement team at the Mets has given me the opportunity to combine my passions for giving back to the community and baseball, and I feel lucky that this great sport is part of my professional life. — Erica Wells
