One of the Best Moves in Mets History

When we made the announcement 12 years ago today, it was a blip in the media. It only made transactions, no headlines. The one line said “Mets sign 35-year old knuckleballer R.A. Dickey to minor league contract for $600,000.” No press conference, no fanfare.

Well, that little out of the way signing turned out to be one of the best moves in Mets history. “The Dickster” as I used to call him, won 20 games and the Cy Young Award in 2012 and hurled three, one-hitters including two in consecutive starts. He wrote a book about his life and appeared on 60 Minutes.

Not a bad career for a one-line mention in transactions.
