With the Boston Red Sox at Citi Field the next few nights, my mind goes back to October 25,1986.

It was Game 6 of the World Series and we were one strike away from being eliminated by Boston. I was sitting in Davey Johnson’s office and I felt like I was about to experience the worst night in my public relations career with the Mets.

I was thinking how were we going to explain how a team that won 114 games couldn’t seal the deal. What you have to remember too was that all the other teams hated us. We were cocky and must have gotten into five or six bench clearing brawls during the year. But then the Mookie Miracle happened, we rallied the next game — Game Seven of the 1986 World Series and I wound up with a ring.

Can I give you a TV tip. Straw will be calling into the SNY broadcast tonight at 8:15 p.m. to talk to Gary, Keith and Ron. It should e a fun interview.
