I never would have had my four decade career with the Mets if not for my friend Dick Stahlberger.

When I was the sports information director at Fairleigh Dickenson University, Dick was working at Montclair State University and also was a top sales executive with CBS TV. He was my mentor and was always there for me. I had an opportunity to write a chapter on Dick in a great new book that coame out this week called “A Coach is…Reflections on People Who Have Impacted Our Lives”.

The book contains over 125 stories by Hall of Famers, professional athletes from the NBA, MLB and NFL about the impact of coaches on their lives. The book was produced by four FDU basketball players, Jay Jorgensen, Steve Makwinski, Jeff Hunt and Seth Greenberg who graduated together in 1978.

All proceeds from the book go to the Teammates 4 Life Foundation which provides moral and financial support to ex-college athletes battling cancer.

To order a book send a check for $23 payable to Teammates 4 Life to:

See Dick, I didn’t forget you.
