Shannon Forde to be Honored with Gil Hodges Award

By Jay Horwitz
I couldn’t be more thrilled that the late Shannon Forde is the first non-uniformed winner of the Queens Baseball Convention’s prestigious Gil Hodges Award. Shannon’s family will accept the Award Saturday in Wantagh, Long Island.

The Award is based on the kindness and congeniality, two of the traits Shannon demonstrated during her 22-years with the Mets. It is sanctioned by the Hodges family and the first winner was the former Mets manager.

Other winners include Tom Seaver, Ed Charles, Buddy Harrelson, David Wright and Bobby Valentine.
On Sunday, Shannon will be fêted again when she becomes one of the few women to be inducted into the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame.
Well deserved, Shannon. I just wish you were here for both ceremonies.
