The Mets Land Showalter

I have admired Buck Showalter from afar and it had nothing to do with his abilities as a manager.

It stemmed from the way he treated Orioles’ Public Relations Director Monica Barlow who passed away from lung cancer in February, 2014. Monica and our Shannon Forde who left is in March, 2016 after a battle with breast cancer, were best friends.

Buck treated Monica like a queen. The Baltimore players wore t-shirts in her honor that spring. He made sure the entire team flew up to Maryland for her memorial services. That year Baltimore would make it to the playoffs and Buck made sure the Barlow family was not forgotten.

Monica’s husband told me that not only did the Mets get themselves a great manager but they got a decent and caring human being.
